Join us for nine days of

REVELRY

February 15 – February 23, 2019

The Revelry is an inaugural event unveiling the School of Performing and Visual Arts to USM and the Hattiesburg community. We have dedicated nine days to special programming of artistic and creative activities, including master classes, workshops, guest and visiting artists, family-friendly events, and formal productions. There are over 40 events packed in to 9 days. Most events are free and all events are led by School faculty and staff.

This has been an opportunity for the programs in the school (dance, art & design, theatre) to collaborate in creating a program that not only builds community within the school, but allows us to share what we do with our communities and audiences. Over the course of the past year a steering committee of faculty and staff have worked with me to build what we think encapsulates the amount of energy and types of artistic expertise that reside in the School.

You will see from the listing of events that we are trying to put what we do in new places of the school, like dance in the gallery and textile dyeing in the ceramics studio. We hope our regular audiences will gain new appreciation for the theatre and galleries they are accustomed to. Another aspect of this is to reveal what we do in our classrooms, studios, and rehearsals through open observation times and tours. We want to share what we do “behind the scenes” so audiences get a glimpse to what happens before opening night. If you work at USM, we have planned events that are offered during the lunch hour and in the early evenings. These are ways for you to change up your day at USM with the addition of art and community.

For School faculty, staff, and students this has been a wonderful way for us to build our community of visual and performing artists and to learn more about each other. I could not be prouder of the many people who have worked hard to make this happen.
